One such is SENSIMAT for wheelchairs.
“Wheelchair users need to actively undergo pressure relief every 15 to 30 minutes by performing shifts, a lateral bend, forward lean, or vertical push-up. On top of all the other things that wheelchair users must deal with on a daily basis, pressure relief can fall by the wayside. This is where the SENSIMAT helps.”
The product is a thin mat of sensors that are inserted under the cushion, but inside the cushion sleeve, of a wheelchair. Sensor data is transmitted via Bluetooth to a mobile app, which processes the data to track if the user is relieving pressure and moving as required. Visual indicators and auditory or vibration alerts prompt users to take appropriate action. Cumulative data is transmitted to a portal that can be accessed by the users or members of their circle of care.
The Indiegogo campaign ends today, but there is still time to contribute.
